Memphis Youth Performing Arts Company (MYPAC) Visit
We at St. Patrick’s were so happy to host the Memphis Youth Performing Arts Company (MYPAC), also known as The Boys and Girls Choir of Memphis, this past weekend at all 3 Masses! MYPAC as founded by Fleming Ivory in August of 2004, and their mission is to use arts education to change the lives of young people by promoting community, social and cultural awareness. These children sang beautifully the song, “Siyahamba/We Are Marching in the Light of God”, and was well received by all, and were able to collect just over $1000 to help them with the restoration of their building and to show how much we enjoyed having them here to enhance our Liturgies, they have agreed to come back maybe once per quarter and perhaps work out a Christmas concert for us here.
The MYPAC Center is located in the Southgate Shopping Center at Third and Belz, behind the South Branch Library. They welcome children age 7-18 years old. The Boys & Girls Choir of Memphis meets on Saturdays from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. The choir performs many styles of music, such as spirituals, jazz, gospels, blues, rock, funk, and much more. Future MYPAC programs will include dance and drama classes as well as classes geared toward leadership, social and life skills training, and performing arts summer camps.
